What are they good for:
  • Provide further assignments for students to work on
  • Get students to do their writing assignments in the form of blog posts
  • Have students work in small groups to write and post summaries of content covered in class to build a compendium for content covered over a semester
  • Publish a list of the objectives ( general as well as specific goals )

Why a Classroom Blog?
  • Every teacher needs a web presence to share with students, colleagues, parents
  • Easy to update because the site needs to contain current information
  • Functional, mix live blog pages with static web pages
  • Moderate Comments from parents and students
  • House information that is shareable
  • Easier to start than a website 
  • Edited from mobile apps or post using email, or even schedule posts for later
  • Safe way to share pictures by using advanced viewing priviledges
  • Subscription Features
Tips:
  • Have students make class posts.  They can discuss what they learned in a lesson, or summarize the days work and homework assignments
  • Schedule Posts in Advance.  Ensure that there is always something new on your blog to entice parents and students to revisit your page and build your following.
  • Add pages to your blog for static information (never changes) and link them to your splash page using a links gadget.
